HAS YOUR PET BEGUN TO URINATE MORE FREQUENTLY OR IN UNUSUAL LOCATIONS?
They might have a medical condition that your veterinarian
can help resolve.
The main disorders of the lower urinary tract in dogs and cats are:
• Bacterial cystitis (bladder infection)
• Feline Idiopathic Cystitis
(inflammation of the bladder in cats)
• Urolithiasis (crystals in urine & stones
in the bladder)
Feline Idiopathic Cystitis (FIC)
is a lower urinary tract condition of unknown origin as it often arises spontaneously and may be most commonly associated with stress. FIC can also occur as cats age due to the thinning of the protective layer that lines the bladder. This layer is made up of glucosamine and other glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). When this occurs, nerve endings can become exposed resulting in pain and discomfort.
Bacterial cystitis results from the
intrusion of bacteria in the urinary tract. They become embedded into a matrix called biofilm, which partially protects them against the effect of antibiotics. This biofilm can be responsible for relapses.
Urolithiasis is the formation of
crystals and stones in the urinary tract. It results in the irritation of the mucosa as these particles move with the urine flow, which causes acute pain for the pet. Eventually, stones may totally block the ability to urinate, resulting in other more serious issues.
Your veterinarian may recommend the following:
These approaches help relieve your pet’s discomfort as well as aid in preventing relapses.
AVENTI URINARY COMPLETE is composed of a comprehensive formulation, including:
Cranberry extract – known to interfere with the adhesion of bacteria to the bladder and with the formation of bacterial biofilm;
Glucosamine – a glycosaminoglycan to reinforce the protection of the bladder wall against bacteria and harmful urine components;
Biological peptides – a natural by-product of yeast fermentation, known to interfere with bacterial growth;
Melon and green tea extracts – provide targeted antioxidant and anti-inflammatory support resulting in comfort and relief for the pet.
HIGHLY PALATABLE for both dogs and cats, the chewable tablets can be either given directly as treats, or crushed and mixed with food.
